Hiring in pest control
Hiring service technicians and termite inspectors without losing your evenings
Screen pest control technicians on applicator licensing, route work and crawlspace willingness before you interview.
Why this one is hard
What makes pest control hiring different
Every trade has its own version of this. These are the ones that cost you people.
- Licensing is state-specific and category-specific, so an experienced tech from one state may not be able to work for you next week.
- Route work is a different rhythm from job-to-job trades, and people who like one often dislike the other.
- Crawlspaces and attics are most of the work and the most common reason someone leaves inside a month.
- Your technician is the entire customer relationship — they are in someone's home every month, alone.
Pest control hiring peaks ahead of spring and summer swarm season, and licence transfers take long enough that hiring late is hiring unlicensed.
The first conversation
What the interview actually asks
HireWRX interviews every applicant the same way you would, then puts the ones worth your time at the top. For pest control, that means questions like these — asked at eleven at night if that is when somebody applies.
- 01
“What licence or registration do you hold, in which state, and for which categories?”
- 02
“How do you feel about crawlspace and attic work in summer?”
- 03
“Have you run a fixed route before, and roughly how many stops a day?”
- 04
“A customer says the treatment did not work. How do you handle that call?”
Pass or fail
The facts worth confirming before anyone's time is spent
These are not judgement calls. They are either true or they are not, and finding out on day one is the expensive way.
- State applicator licence or registered technician status, and which categories.
- Termite or wood-destroying organism certification where you offer it.
- Driving record — this is a route job in a branded vehicle.
- Willingness to work in crawlspaces and attics, stated plainly.
Post the role. Read four reports instead of forty applications.
You still do the interviews and you still do the hiring. HireWRX just handles the part between the application landing and you deciding who is worth an hour.
